This is a special concert that explores the works of composers who ushered in the golden age of music in Spain during the Age of Discovery. We will present a selection of exquisite devotional songs rooted in the deep faith of the era, including works by Victoria—a symbol of Spanish Renaissance music—as well as Morales, a pioneer on the international stage, his pupil Guerrero, and others such as Esquivel and Pérez. The refined ensemble of Beata Musica Tokiensis will fill the venue with the rich, full-bodied sounds of the Renaissance. Additionally, a lecture by Mr. Hide Nagaoka will be held 15 minutes before the performance begins, allowing you to appreciate the concert with a deeper understanding of the musical context of the era. Set within the sacred space of the Church of St. Gregory—a historic church building—please enjoy to your heart’s content the sacred melodies that have been passed down through the ages. Please note that admission is not permitted for preschool-aged children.
