The Chofu Citizens’ Opera’s 29th production is a spectacular double bill featuring two masterpieces of Italian opera: Mascagni’s *Cavalleria Rusticana* and Leoncavallo’s *Pagliacci*. Under the baton of Toshiaki Murakami and directed by Naoshi Oshima, the NEXT Orchestra and the Chofu Citizens’ Opera Chorus will weave these stories with rich emotion. “Cavalleria Rusticana” depicts the tragedy brought about by village customs on Easter Sunday, while “Pagliacci” is a drama of madness and jealousy sparked by the leader of a traveling troupe of performers. Both are masterpieces that challenge the modern world with their portrayal of human love, hatred, and true reality. In today’s society, where boundaries are becoming increasingly blurred, these works deeply explore the subtleties of universal human emotions through vivid and passionate performances on stage. We invite you to come to the venue and fully immerse yourself in this dramatic musical experience where two tragedies intertwine.
