On the Sacred and Its Representations

Waseda University, Toyama Campus, Student Union Building, Room B201, Multipurpose HallTokyo

We, the “Waseda University Piano Society,” are an intercollegiate club affiliated with the Tokyo Six Universities Piano Federation. From our society—one of the largest of its kind in Japan—12 elite members have come together to present an experimental concert.
This concert is an experimental stage that transcends the conventional framework of piano recitals to explore the possibilities of the venue space and stage direction. Under the theme “Sanctus: On the Sacred and Its Representation,” we aim to explore the religious and transcendent sensibilities at the core of Western music from the Middle Ages to the present day. In terms of spatial design, we will adopt unprecedented approaches, such as placing the piano at the center and arranging the audience seating in a circular formation. Furthermore, through lighting design and the creation of a comprehensive program note, we aim to strike a balance between artistic expression and academic depth.

All seats are unreserved. Admission: 500 yen
(Please purchase tickets via the URL listed on this page or by email)

Doors open at 6:30 p.m.
Performance begins at 7:00 p.m.
(A pre-performance talk will be held before the show)

Please note that there will also be a performance on October 9 as part of a separate program (the venue, doors-open and start times, and ticket price are the same).
