The University of Tokyo Faculty of Music Orchestra Summer Concert 2026: Kanagawa Performance

Boasting a history of over 100 years and composed entirely of current University of Tokyo students, the University of Tokyo Music Department Orchestra—one of Japan’s leading university orchestras—will once again embark on a national tour this year. For this performance in Kanagawa, the orchestra will present three renowned masterpieces, each with its own unique charm. The concert will open with the overture to Nikolai’s opera *The Merry Wives of Windsor*, whose light and brilliant melodies will fill the hall with joy. Next, the orchestra will perform Beethoven’s Symphony No. 1, which hints at the dawn of his innovative style, and the concert will conclude with Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 6, “Pathétique”—a work he himself called his greatest masterpiece, filled with deep emotion and beautiful melodies.
