Rie Shimizu Flute Recital
The Bach Project/FINALE
2026/07/05(su.) 15:00 Starting

We present the final performance of the “Bach Project,” a series that flutist Rie Shimizu has been working on for 13 years. This concert marks the culmination of her efforts.
She performs Bach’s unaccompanied works—originally written for violin or cello—on a single wind instrument: the flute. How can she depict double stops and counterpoint through the flow of her breath and shifting timbres? The years she has spent grappling with this question have now reached a culmination.
The program for this final chapter centers on the Unaccompanied Partita No. 1 (BWV 1002), arranged by Motoaki Kato. This piece represents the very core of my journey of continuous engagement with Bach. Additionally, I will present the world premiere of *Light in the Darkness* for flute and piano, a new work commissioned from composer Kensaku Shimizu, who has accompanied this project for many years. You are invited to witness this special moment where 13 years of exploration lead to new creation.
Furthermore, we have woven Mozart’s expansive melodies and Brahms’s profound emotions into the program. We are pleased to welcome Yayoi Yamamoto on piano, allowing you to enjoy both the tension of unaccompanied music and the richness of duets in a single day.
Please come to the venue to hear the music we have arrived at after this long journey. We sincerely look forward to welcoming you.
