PTNA Public Recording Concert: Piano Pieces by Textbook Authors
2026/11/20(Fr.) 19:00 Starting
~A Message from Performer Takashi Hayashikawa~
In 1948, a publishing company specializing in music textbooks was founded by composer Toshiharu Ichikawa and others. Among the early editorial staff were Ichikawa himself, Kosaku Yamada—who laid the foundation for Western music in Japan— as well as Kan’ichi Shimosa, who studied under Hindemith in Berlin, and Shimosa’s students, including composers such as Mareo Ishikake and Minosuke Matsumoto. From among them, I have put together a program featuring piano pieces by the four composers other than Kōsaku Yamada, as well as Takeshi Heikichi, Nobuyoshi Iinuma, and Yoshinori Kurosawa—who were involved in textbook production during the 1980s and 1990s and composed songs widely sung in schools.
