"The Black Lizard," now in its third production by B.I., is a thrilling action-packed drama adapted for the stage by Yukio Mishima from the original work by Edogawa Ranpo. Since its adaptation into an opera in 1984, its high entertainment value has made it a production enjoyed by audiences of all ages. This time, we’ve added a new psychological drama to the mix, presenting it as a fresh form of entertainment. Last year, we staged “Half-God” (based on the original work by Moto Hagio), which dealt with conjoined twins, and it received high praise; this production of “The Red Lizard” features the twin sister of “The Black Lizard.” Separated from her sister at a young age through surgery, she was raised in Hong Kong and has since become a master thief every bit as formidable as her sister—though she remains unaware of the secret of her birth. How will the fate of Detective Kogoro Akechi—loved by these two female thieves—unfold…? The story unfolds in this way. However, we have made absolutely no alterations to the sacred original script; the production proceeds strictly as a separate story. Therefore, we believe even fans of Edogawa and Mishima will find it satisfying. In addition to a full cast ranging from the grand prima donna to veteran and up-and-coming actors, the charm of the distinctive and skilled new characters truly shines. And this “Red Lizard Version” will disappear after this one-time performance. The venue is Auru Spot in Ikebukuro, where you won’t have to step outside at all and which is safe even during a typhoon.
