New Music Lecture: The Sound of Tradition Now

This new music course delves deeply into the fascinating golden age of piano manufacturing from 1910 to the 1930s, a time when numerous manufacturers competed to produce unique tones. This performance will feature a rare, approximately 100-year-old semi-concert grand piano manufactured by the prestigious Leipzig, Germany, maker Feurich. Pianist Masahiro Shigematsu will offer the extremely rare and luxurious experience of listening to this historic instrument side by side with a concert grand piano representing the modern era equipped at the venue, and directly comparing the tonal characteristics of each.
