J-TRAD Ensemble MAHOROBA, a group of Japanese traditional music performers active in Japan and abroad, will hold its first high-profile performance in two years. The performance will feature a diverse program, including the premiere of a new work commissioned by Yuta Mori and Shoichiro Tanaka, as well as an ambitious arrangement of Mussorgsky's "Pictures at an Exhibition" reconstructed for Japanese instruments. The superb ensemble of traditional Japanese instruments - shamisen, shakuhachi, koto, kokyu, and ohayashi - will transcend the boundaries of tradition and present new possibilities for contemporary music. The concert will be filled with a work by Yayohi Kitazume based on Kenji Miyazawa's tanka poem and an emotional arrangement of the well-known song "Akatonbo" (The Red Dragonfly). Please come and experience the one-of-a-kind sound world created by leading performers.
