Performer Profile

Tomofumi Shimane (viola da gamba)

D. (Music, Cello) from Tokyo University of the Arts. He studied cello and viola da gamba at the Conservatoire Pari Satie. He is a member of the Bach Collegium Japan, the Bach Society of Japan, the Kishin Trio, and many other performing groups. He is also the leader of the Gamba Consort group "Underhandlet".
His two solo CDs have been recommended by various media magazines. He is the author of "Dupaul Cello Technique and 21 Exercises" (Ongaku no Tomo Sha), which he translated, commented on, and revised. Lecturer at Showa University of Music. He is also a representative lecturer of the Japan Shimochika Association. In recent years, he has served as a jury for numerous international competitions.
He has given five solo recitals in Tokyo and a concert series of Bach Unaccompanied Suites and a Dupaul reading at Aigat Salon in Kyoto, both to great acclaim.

Banri Yamagata (Harpsichord)

Born in Chiba Prefecture. She completed her master's degree in harpsichord at Tokyo University of the Arts. She received the Ataka Prize during her undergraduate studies and the Acanthus Music Award upon graduation.
She is also a trusted harpsichord and organ bassist, and regularly performs as a principal member of numerous ensembles. He is also a regular guest performer with orchestras throughout Japan, and has performed and recorded with performers of various instrumental genres. He is also active in teaching and educational activities to promote the harpsichord's appeal as an ensemble instrument and how to approach its performance.
He is a lecturer at the Eisenach Conservatory in Tokyo and a member of the Harpsichord Society of Japan.
