New Japan Philharmonic Orchestra, 117th Subscription Concert (60th Anniversary Commemoration II)

The New Japan Philharmonic has celebrated its 60th anniversary.
We believe this is entirely due to the support and patronage of all of you who have cheered us on. We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude.
Now, for our 117th Regular Concert—the second installment of our 60th-anniversary series—we are finally ready to take on Gustav Mahler’s monumental work. Our aim is to achieve further musical growth as an orchestra.
Why is Mahler’s Symphony No. 6, written during the peak of his career, titled “Tragic”?
When we consider the course of his life after that, is the sound of the hammer resounding throughout the piece a symbol of fate—or perhaps a resistance against it?
Conducting us is Rino Yoshizaki, whose passionate performance at our 112th Regular Concert—our first collaboration—was highly acclaimed. She is a young prodigy with a promising future ahead of her.
As Ms. Yoshizaki continues to shine ever brighter, what kind of Mahlerian “fate” will she bring to life?
