The third installment of Pinnock's works with voices will be a pious world of Bach's most beautiful motets and Brahms's great "German Requiem," a work that took ten years to complete. Following Mendelssohn's "Hymn" in 2023 and Mozart's "Cosi fan tutte" in 2025, KCO Chief Conductor Trevor Pinnock will present works with vocal accompaniment. This year's program will feature Brahms's great "German Requiem. Like the "Hymn," this work uses German passages from the Old and New Testaments as lyrics, and was written in memory of Schumann and Brahms' own mother. The soloists will be Aki Matsui, who performed in "Pulcinella" in 2019, and Uni Onishi, winner of the 30th Nippon Steel Music Award Fresh Artist Prize and making her KCO debut. The "German Requiem" will be combined with Bach's motet "Come, O Jesus, Come". This piece is said to have been written for a funeral service, and is one of Bach's most beautiful and sweetly atmospheric masterpieces. Both pieces will be performed in succession without intermission. Both have in common the fact that they were premiered in Leipzig.
