The Individuality of Two National Composers in Pursuit of Takuo Yuasa
Sibelius has long been a distant cousin to the New Symphony Orchestra, with only two conductors, Yasuo Watanabe and Yasushi Akutagawa, having performed his seven symphonies, but Takuo Yuasa has brought a new style to the orchestra, performing No. 2 in 2019 and No. 1 in the following year. In this third installment, we present No. 5, a masterpiece that stands alongside them, but is being performed for the first time in its 70-year history.
The first half of the program features two pieces of theme music with a strong nationalistic flavor. The first half of the concert will feature two theme pieces with a folkloric flavor, and "Taras Bouliba," the group's second Janacek work after "The Tale of the Clever Vixen" in 2024, will be accompanied by the magnificent sound of the pipe organ of which Tokyo Metropolitan Art Space is proud to be a part!
