In this lecture concert, violinist Junya Makino invites you to a time when sound awakened from "beauty" to "existence" through his own experience of contemporary music. The reason why people find contemporary music "difficult" may be because it requires a different "way of listening" from the past. In this concert, we will propose a way of listening that does not follow the melody, but rather listens closely to the texture of the sound, its resonance, and the moment of disappearance itself, through performance and commentary. The first of a four-part series will be a performance of the "Music of the 1950s and 1960s. As the first of a series of four concerts, this is a rare opportunity to experience the dynamism of music's evolution. In the final session, a solo performance including the premiere of a newly commissioned work is scheduled, and deep impressions are expected throughout the series.
