Flat Philharmonic Orchestra 14th Concert

For the 14th concert, the orchestra will perform M. Ravel's "Minuet in the Ancient Style," L. Drieve's ballet suite "Coppelia," and C. Franck's "Symphony in D minor" as its ambitious attempt at a French work.

Coppelia is a slapstick comedy about a village girl, Swanilda, who falls in love with an automaton and wins his heart back, and the 14 excerpts from the complete ballet will be performed according to the story!

Also, the "Old-fashioned Menuetto," a fusion of old-fashioned elegance and the young Ravel's urban, pointed harmony, borrows from the traditional dance form, but with a modern sound that is not straightforward and is sprinkled throughout.
Franck's "Symphony in D minor" is a highlight of the program, with its "massive, pipe-organ-like sound and the beauty of the cyclical form in which the themes of all the movements are closely intertwined. You can enjoy the overwhelming power of the composition as it moves from a sacred and contemplative atmosphere to a passionate grand finale.

This is the Flat Philharmonic's first attempt at French music, and we hope you will enjoy it at the concert venue.
