This is a special subscription concert presented by the Tokyo City Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of its permanent conductor, Ken Takaseki. This year's concert will commemorate the 120th anniversary of Shostakovich's birth and the 30th anniversary of Toru Takemitsu's death, and will delve deeply into their masterpieces. With special guest concertmaster Eiji Arai as soloist, the orchestra will tackle Shostakovich's Violin Concertos Nos. 1 and 2, two soul-stirring masterpieces. The orchestra will also perform Toru Takemitsu's beautiful and delicate sounding "A Way a Lawn II," a supreme program dedicated to the great stars of contemporary music.
