Toshima City Orchestra 101st Regular Concert

The Toshima City Orchestra, which celebrated its 50th anniversary last year, will hold its 101st Regular Concert as a new step forward.

As the main program, the orchestra will perform Brahms' Symphony No. 1, which took German composer Brahms 21 years from conception to completion, for the first time in 16 years. The symphony was completed after a long period of refinement, and is full of tension and requires an exquisite ensemble.

In the first half of the concert, the orchestra will perform Brahms' tragic overture and "Enigma," a variation on an original theme by English composer Elgar.
The Tragic Overture, which is a yin-yang counterpart to the Overture to the University Celebration, composed at the same time, shares a similarity in form with the fourth movement of Symphony No. 1, with its tense sound and passionate musical ideas in D minor.
The Enigma Variations is a very unique work, consisting of 14 variations on a theme and friends that Elgar envisioned. Elgar's music is often technically difficult to perform, and the Enigma Variations are no exception. Please look forward to seeing how far we can bring out the charm of the piece.
