The Osaka Prefectural Ibaraki High School Brass Band will celebrate its 100th anniversary in 2024. To commemorate this anniversary, we will hold the "100th Anniversary Concert.
The story behind the founding of the Ibaraki High School Brass Band
The predecessor of the Ibaraki High School Brass Band Club, the Music Club, was founded as the first brass band club among the former junior high schools in Osaka Prefecture during the time of the former Ibaraki Junior High School. The club later changed its name to "Brass Band Club" and "Brass Band Club" and has continued to the present day.
Ibaraki High School is known as the "birthplace of modern swimming in Japan," which is deeply related to the birth of the music club. It is said that Den Sugimoto, a swimming teacher at Ibaraki Junior High School at the time and a coach of the Japanese Olympic swimming team, stopped by Vienna on his way back from the 1924 Paris Olympics and founded the music club with the desire to spread the music culture he saw there in Japan.
