Up-and-coming shakuhachi player Shozan Hasegawa will appear as part of the "Biwako Spring Music Festival 2026" at Biwako Hall, Shiga Performing Arts Center. The program will begin with Kunizan Yamamoto I's masterpiece "Wild Geese," followed by contemporary composer Dai Fujikura's "Korokoro" and masterpieces usually performed on Western instruments, such as J.S. Bach's unaccompanied flute partita and unaccompanied cello suite, which will be performed on the shakuhachi. This is a rare opportunity to experience firsthand the "new possibilities of the shakuhachi" that transcend the boundaries of traditional instruments. Please enjoy a refined moment in which the boundaries between Japan and the West are blended by Shozan Hasegawa's well-honed sensitivity and excellent technique.
