To commemorate the 40th anniversary of Suntory Hall, Hall Opera® "TEA: Tea is the Mirror of the Soul," a masterpiece by world-renowned composer Tan Dun, will be staged for the first time in 20 years. This work was commissioned by the Hall in 2002 and has received worldwide acclaim as a profound musical drama that fuses East and West. Based on the "Tea Sutra," a sacred book on tea from the Tang Dynasty, the ultimate story of love and fantasy is depicted in a new production that takes advantage of the unique spatial characteristics of Suntory Hall. Under the direction of Tan Dun himself, the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra, a spirited international cast, and talented percussionists will come together to create an overwhelming stage that will stimulate all five senses.
