Concert to Commemorate Release of Restored Score & CD of "String Quartet" by Takao Hirao Unofficial

Kishio Hirao's "String Quartet," which won the first Chamber Music Prize of the Japan Federation of Composers in 1940, has long been considered a "phantom work" due to the loss of its score as a result of war damage. Recently, however, a sound recording made in Germany in 1941 was miraculously discovered, and the score was restored after two years of meticulous work led by Megumi Shimane. This performance is a special stage to commemorate the publication of this restored score and the release of the CD. Leading musicians Megumi Shimane, Yoshiteru Yamamoto, Shotaro Nakamura, and Tomofumi Shimane have gathered for this performance. Together with masterpieces by Vincent d'Indy, under whom Hirao studied, they will perform Japanese masterpieces that have been revived over time.
