P. Tchaikovsky / Excerpt from "Swan Lake" ballet
P. Tchaikovsky / Symphony No. 4 in F minor

The Keio University Medical School Orchestra was founded in 1974 as the "Medical School Music Club" as an official organization of Keio University, and is a student orchestra mainly composed of medical school students. In 1992, the late Yukio Kamata was appointed as the orchestra's permanent conductor, and under his guidance, the orchestra has performed mainly the music of Brahms, Sibelius, and other composers of the Romantic period. In 2009, the baton was passed to the current permanent conductor, Mr. Yuichi Sato, and under his guidance, the orchestra has continued to grow day by day. Currently, the group performs mainly at Keio University's medical faculties (Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Pharmacy, and Faculty of Nursing and Medical Care), giving regular concerts once a year and performing at hospitals and nursing care facilities. The group, which has been nicknamed "Iikan" (meaning "medical band"), will be celebrating its 50th regular concert this year. With the passion of the current students and the many memories of alumni, the group will perform on the grand stage of Suntory Hall. Please come and listen to their passionate performance!
