Kyushu Wind Ensemble Concert 2026
2026/05/10(su.) 14:00 Starting
Across Fukuoka Fukuoka Symphony Hall (Fukuoka)
Official http://www.kyushu-wo.com
In the first half of Kyushu Wind Ensemble 2026, we will be presenting the finest works by selected Japanese composers, including "Meditation and Dance" written by one of the young composers, Toshi Ikegami, in the early 1970s. It has been revised many times since then, and is still known as a masterpiece that has never faded away. Next, we will present "Angel Michael's Lament," a masterpiece composed during the Cold War era, which has been a source of concern to us all. It is precisely because of the current world situation that we need to hear this piece.
From among Hiroshi Hoshina's many works, we will present the original version of "Kazamon," a highly popular masterpiece that was originally released as an assignment piece for the 1987 brass band competition.
The second half of the program will feature "Symphony No. 3," one of the most popular symphonies by James Barnes, now one of America's most famous composers. This symphony, which the composer himself called "tragic," is a masterpiece that takes the high road of symphonic music, telling the story of grief, sorrow, and prayer over the loss of a beloved daughter with a haunting melody, and in the final movement, the story of hope that lies beyond the tragedy.
Masashi Fujita, who has been active worldwide as a pianist, will take the podium for the first time as a conductor for the Kyushu Wind Ensemble concert, and we look forward to seeing how he will cook up these wind music pieces that he himself loves.
