Part 2
𝄞 Symphony No. 2 in D major, Op. 73 / composed by J. Brahms
(*Four-movement form. The performance time of the second part is expected to be approximately 50 minutes)

In the summer of 1877, the composer Brahms used the beautiful, quiet, nature-rich land of Pertsach, on the shores of Lake Werther in the region of southern Austria, as a summer retreat.
The "Symphony No. 2" was inspired by the natural beauty of the area, and Brahms completed the work in about three months.
Brahms composed four symphonies during his lifetime, all of which are of high elegance, and in terms of the four seasons, the Second Symphony is reminiscent of the greenery and light of summer.

Brahms wrote to a friend, "You say that the land of Peltchach is full of melodies, so be careful not to trample them down.
As in Brahms' letter to a friend, the symphony is a technical sublimation of the impressions and inspirations from the harmonious beauty of nature, and a thorough use of various traditional techniques in the form of pure music.

The inspiration that came to Brahms, a devout Christian, is expressed as a natural flow of music for the listener to experience.

The techniques of church music of Beethoven and Bach's time are used in all movements, and quotations and developments from the Gregorian chant "The Day of Wrath" can be heard from the very beginning.
Please listen carefully as if you were observing nature.

A fresh midsummer breeze blew through my heart, making this a passionate program that lifted my spirits.
We hope you will enjoy the concert in the resonant and beautifully acoustical main hall of APRICO.
All the members of the group look forward to seeing you at the concert ✨.
