Since 2024, "The Shakuhachi 5" has been working on the "Ukiyo-e Project," commissioning new compositions and video works based on Ukiyo-e paintings depicting the shakuhachi that are in the collections of museums in New York, Prague, Czech Republic, and Tokyo, Japan.
In 2025, we will present new works in New York and Prague, and this concert will mark the completion of the "Ukiyo-e Project," which we have been working on for three years.
In this concert, we will present the works premiered in New York and Prague, as well as a new composition commissioned by Keiko Harada and a new video work by Akio Ota.
In addition, we will present three pieces we have encountered in the past, and "Koto Koryu Honkyoku (Deer Far Away Sound) Quintet Version," arranged and premiered by "The Shakuhachi 5" in 2025, for a total of seven pieces.
We hope you will experience with your eyes and ears the sounds and images of the shakuhachi woven into the world of Ukiyo-e and our lifework, "The Shakuhachi 5," a new expression of shakuhachi music.
