In this recital, Tomofumi Shimane will recreate the "under-bow" cello technique common in the 17th and 18th centuries with a mini-lecture, performing J.S. Bach's Suite No. 3 BWV 1009 for unaccompanied cello and sonatas with basso continuo by Vivaldi and Klein. Tomofumi Shimane will use his cello and the fantastic small viola da gamba "Canton" to freely resonate from solos in the ultra-high register to massive baroque ensembles. The ensemble will be joined by Marie Nishiyama (baroque harp and harpsichord) and Sunahiko Fuse (violone da gamba and viola da gamba), who are active in the world of ancient music. This is a rare opportunity to vividly revive the musical culture of the time through a performance based on historical research.
