Prologue to the 30th anniversary of Ryotaro Shiba's death: "Concert for those of us living in the 21st century
2026/02/14(sa.) 17:00 Starting
Higashi-Osaka City Cultural Creation Center Multipurpose Room (Osaka)
This performance will feature music based on Ryotaro Shiba's "To You Who Live in the 21st Century". In this novel, Ryotaro Shiba writes about our relationship with technology. In contemporary classical music, the possibilities for expression have also expanded rapidly with the use of various electronic technologies. In this performance, we hope that the audience will enjoy the sounds of instruments that are possible only through the use of technology. In addition, we will present the charm of Hachinosato through music based on recitations using electronic technology.

What is Aqua-Smonium?
This performance is a concert using a new performance medium (instrument) called acousmonium. Aquaemonium is an instrument that creates a spatial expression of sound by installing a large number of speakers at different positions and heights throughout the venue. All programs are performed using the acousmonium, and the sound moves around the entire venue. Therefore, there is no need to sit still to appreciate the performance! Rather, it is a waste to listen while sitting. Enjoy the music while moving around freely in any position you like.
Program
1, Electric Counterpoint (Composed by Reich)
The birth of recording technology has dramatically changed the state of classical music. American composer Steve Reich actively explored its possibilities, researching the power of a single instrument to rival that of an orchestra through recording and multiplexing. In "Electric Counterpoint," the work featured in this issue, a single acoustic guitarist plays as the core of the piece, while recording techniques are used to superimpose numerous guitar parts to create a three-dimensional sound space and overwhelming acoustics. The recorded multiple parts and the live performance are precisely intertwined to create a multi-layered sound experience.
2, Anthem 2 (Composed by Boulez)
As a conductor, composer, and sometimes as a politician. In the history of classical music, no composer has contributed more to the development of music than Boulez. Boulez, in particular, is a composer who actively used technology to develop instrumental expression. In this exhibition, various acoustic technologies will be used in conjunction with violin performances to bring you the sounds of the violin that you cannot experience on a daily basis.
3, Rape blossoms (Composed by Tomonori Okada)
The year 2026 marks the 30th anniversary of Ryotaro Shiba's death. In Hachinosato, Higashiosaka City, every February, rape blossoms, which are said to be his favorite flower, are planted throughout the city. In his book "To You Who Live in the 21st Century," Ryotaro Shiba spoke about his relationship with technology. This work will be the world premiere of a composition based on that story to promote the charms of Hachinonosato.
