The Sehnsucht Philharmoniker, or Sehnsucht Philharmoniker, is an orchestra formed under the name Sehnsucht; longing. Most of the members are from the orchestra of the Tokyo Jikei University School of Medicine, but this time, the players went beyond the boundaries of that group and gathered together from various places. The reunion with old friends, the joy of spinning music again under the direction of conductor Toshihiro Yonezu, and the hope of welcoming new friends and creating new connections through music made the formation of this orchestra possible.
In this concert commemorating the founding of the orchestra, we will perform Mahler's unfinished Symphony No. 10, the "End" symphony, and Symphony No. 1, the "Beginning" symphony. Symphony No. 1 was also performed at the 107th Subscription Concert of the Orchestra of the Jikei University School of Music (May 2018). The group includes both those who experienced this concert and those who did not, but the connection between the two was temporarily lost due to the spread of the new coronavirus infection. This break in connection is true of many amateur orchestras. The spirit of longing of the orchestra to reconstruct the deep ties between the players and to pass on the culture to future generations resonates deeply with the two pieces in this concert, which symbolize "the end" and "the beginning".
We value the music and the time spent with the players, conductor, and audience more than anything else. Now, a new circle of music will be drawn based on the connection between all people.
