Naoya Otsuka, a leading keyboard player of the Baroque period, has been approaching J.S. Bach's works from various angles and perspectives, and will present "Inventions and Sinfonias" in February 2026. It is said that Bach composed this collection of 15 Inventions and 15 Sinfonias, totaling 30 pieces, for his sons and students. The works have been widely used as both teaching materials and recital pieces, and are said to have been studied at least once by many piano students up to the present day. In this performance, we will present each of the familiar pieces with the sounds of the positif organ and harpsichord.
The guest speaker will be Hideyuki Nakayama, an architect who has attracted attention for his unique activities, including collaborations with various fields of expression and architectural design from the viewpoint of coexistence with nature. In his talk with Otsuka, he will explore the similarities between "architecture and music," as well as the essence of "Bach the composer" by regarding "Inventions and Sinfonias" as "sound architecture" by Bach.
Please enjoy the time to delve deeper into Bach's music as you are invited to listen to the sounds of ancient instruments.
