Message from the Performers
Kanon Wada
This was the first time in six years that I took the plunge and challenged myself to compete in this competition.
I was able to make up my mind to compete because of my best friend, Ms. Maseda, without a doubt.
Even now, the inspiration I receive from her, who never stops challenging herself in every way, is one of the things that motivates me.
This duo with Ms. Maseda, with whom I have shared many joys and troubles both in public and private life, is a must-listen!
The soloist is Liszt's "Mephisto Waltz" No. 1 from the complete Ravel's "Gaspard de la Nuit" including Ondine, which was also performed in the competition. Please enjoy the fantastic and somewhat devilish world.
Saiya Zuma-Seda
For 13 years since our days at the high school attached to Tokyo University of the Arts, Mr. Wada and I have walked through life's milestones together through music. It gives me the greatest pleasure to know that the time we have spent respecting each other, constantly stimulating each other, and engaging in friendly competition has borne fruit in the form of both of us winning prizes at the Tokyo Music Competition. We ourselves are very much looking forward to seeing what kind of music will be created in the performance of the dialogue of sounds spun by these two well-known musicians through Rachmaninoff's works. In the solo performance, we will perform Mussorgsky's "Pictures at an Exhibition," a piece we are deeply attached to. Please come and join us!
