A journey through German lieder, full of fantasy and beauty, and what lies at the end of the road.
The end of the journey through songs: classic and innovation, change and universality.
Sara Kobayashi and Kotaro Fukuma have been introducing the fascination of German lieder from different perspectives over the past three sessions, and this series will finally reach its final installment.
The composers featured in the final installment are divided into two distinct periods. On one side are Mozart and Beethoven. Aside from operas, songs and lieder have received less attention than instrumental music, so how will these two great composers of the classical era be introduced? Expectations are high. And on the other hand, in contrast, Zemlinsky, and the "New Viennese School" of Schoenberg, Berg, and Webern, and the still vivid works of the composers who represented Vienna at the end of the 20th century. What kind of finale will this Lieder journey reach with these masterpieces, which are rooted in the same land, but show different appearances in different periods...?
