[Concert Highlights.
The last subscription concert of the year will be conducted by Eugene Zygarn. Born in Japan in 1981 to an American father and a Japanese mother, he studied at the Juilliard School and the Royal College of Music in Stockholm, and after winning the second prize at the Georg Solti International Conducting Competition in 2008, he became the principal conductor of the Northwest German Philharmonic Orchestra. He has served as Artistic Director of the Kuopio Symphony Orchestra since 2023. He has also made guest appearances with the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Deutsches Symphonieorchester Berlin, the Bruckner Orchestra Linz, and others. In Japan, he has been well received by the Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra and the Kyoto Symphony Orchestra.
The first point of interest in this concert will be the music he produces, which has been described as vigorous, elegant, and precise. The program of "Peer Gynt," "Der Rosenkavalier," and "Pictures at an Exhibition" is also very enticing. All of these works are full of narrative and descriptive elements, so their narratives are interesting, and above all, the fact that they are all popular orchestral pieces is a major attraction. It is rare to find such a melodious and colorful program of masterpieces, and you will surely experience the real thrill of the orchestra just by sitting in the audience.
Katsuhiko Shibata (music critic)
