This event will be held jointly with the Finnish Center to commemorate the 160th anniversary of Sibelius' birth.
The first part, "A Look from Finland," will feature a lecture by Olli Moilanen (composer) and a concert by the duo MIRAI, featuring Eija Kankanranta (kantele player) and Kamila Huytenga (flute player).
The second part, "A Look from Japan," will feature a program of Finnish composers from Sibelius to the present, presented by up-and-coming Japanese performers. The program will trace the history of Finnish music through a wide range of compositions, from piano solos to string quartets, to see how composers of later generations looked at Sibelius.
By showing the current state of Finnish musical culture, which has developed from the symbolic presence of Sibelius, this program highlights the multi-layered richness and continuity of Finnish music and connects cultural memory to the future.
