A permanent violin quartet, unparalleled in the world, will hold a concert in Kyoto. Violin Quartette TAKEYUMI" was formed in 2016 and is now in its 9th year. The quartet is made up of four male students from the 62nd violin major of Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music High School. They have performed in Tokyo, Saitama, Kanagawa, Kyoto, Gifu, Shiga, and other cities. They have won a special prize at the Mozart International Chamber Music Competition.
The orchestra has an extremely limited repertoire, with original works by Telemann, Bacevich, Dancla, and Dondo being the only known works. Therefore, the orchestra has been active in arranging music, led by its member Oikawa. The group has arranged many works, including Grieg's "Holberg Suite," Ravel's "Couperin's Tomb," and Bizet's "Carmen. His arrangements, which respect the originals while at the same time making full use of unexpected harmonic developments and violin playing techniques, have been highly praised by composers and other musicians alike.
There are two main difficulties in bringing four violins together. The first is the severity of the pitches. The lack of a bass part makes it much more difficult than in a string quartet to create a beautifully balanced harmony. The other is that it is difficult to feel the weight of the music. As mentioned above, the absence of bass makes the music sound light.
However, TAKEYUMI has overcome these shortcomings over the nine years of maturation since its formation. In fact, it would not be an exaggeration to say that the ensemble has grown to the point where the performers themselves can enjoy the ensemble's spontaneous and lively performances. The ability to respond flexibly to any problems that may arise, to read the atmosphere and mood of the audience, and to make adjustments in between, have been cultivated over the long period of time that the same members have been performing together.
The program for this year's concert was filled with baroque works by Telemann and Lachner, a neat piece by Lorich, a hidden masterpiece by the Romanticists, a representative piece by Bazewicz, and arrangements of "Hansel and Gretel" and "Couperin's Tomb. You will surely be captivated by the violin quartet. We hope you will come to the concert hall to hear the heavenly sound of the quartet.
