Lunchtime Concert: A Journey through Music History (4)

A series of lecture concerts, starting in FY2022, that will take you on a five-year tour of music history!
In September, we will present an Italian opera (tenor).

The program will feature Yukimasa Sawahara (tenor), a member of Nikikai, who is also active as a soloist and has appeared in many opera performances. Piano will be played by Mazuzu Yamanaka. (*The 4th program will be without commentary.)

Yukimasa Sawahara(Tenor)
Born in Kure City, Hiroshima Prefecture. Graduated from Ehime University, Faculty of Education. He received his Bachelor's degree in Vocal Performance from Tokyo University of the Arts and his Master's degree in Music from the same university. D. in Music from Toho Gakuen School of Music. D. in Music. He made his operatic debut in Don Jose in "Carmen. Since then, she has appeared in various operas including "La bohème," "La traviata," "Madame Butterfly," and "Tosca. In concert, she has appeared as soloist in Mozart's "Requiem," Handel's "Messiah," Beethoven's "Ninth Symphony," and Orff's "Carmina Burana," among others. She holds the "Aspiring" concert series every year with the goal of performing opera in her hometown of Kure. In addition, she writes liner notes and music commentaries for a wide range of activities. She is a member of the Nikikai. He is a member of the Nikikai and a special envoy for tourism in Kure.

MARU YAMANAKA (Piano)
Born in Kobe, Hyogo Prefecture, Yamanaka began playing piano at the age of three and composing music at five. After graduating from Nishinomiya High School of Music, Tokyo University of the Arts with a Master's degree in composition, she went to France to study at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris. From 2022, he will participate as a chorepetitore in the concert-style opera performances of "Falstaff," "Otello," and "Macbeth" by the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Myung-Whun Chung, as well as the "Don Giovanni" produced by Yutaka Sado in Hyogo Prefecture. In March 2024, he served as the official accompanist for the clarinet class of the Kyoto French Music Academy. He is currently a part-time lecturer (performance researcher) at the Department of Conducting and Voice at Tokyo University of the Arts.
