The Kitagawa Memorial Russian Folk Instruments Orchestra was formed in Tokyo in 2009 with Sho Kitagawa, the only Japanese professional balalaika player, as its musical director. The orchestra is composed mainly of Russian folk instruments such as balalaika, domra, gusli, and bayan, and continues to perform a wide variety of music genres including classical, Russian folk, and film music.
In 2025, the group will perform at the Kohoku Arts Festival in Kohoku-ku, Yokohama, with guest Mami Kurosawa, who will be performing with the group for the first time.
