EGK was formed in 1999 by members of the Waseda University Philharmonic Wind Orchestra, mostly alumni and former members.
EGK stands for Ensemble Großen Künstlers, which means "great artists" in German. We chose this name to pay homage to the musicians who gave us the pleasure of performing.
We hope to perform many masterpieces left to us by these artists, without forgetting our hearts that are moved by music.
At last year's 25th concert, we performed Beethoven's Symphony No. 5 "Destiny" with the idea of "opening the door to EGK's destiny and opening the way to a further future.
This time, we will continue that concept and take on the challenge of Prokofiev, a composer that has never been featured at EGK before. Please look forward to the beautiful and fragile world of "Romeo and Juliet.
We hope you will come to our concert, where you can enjoy a unique ensemble of four contrabasses, chamber music, and symphonic works in one diverse program.
