City Symphony Orchestra's 440th "Symphony Afternoon" - 4 pieces on the theme of "love" will be performed.
The first half of the concert will feature "Love's Greeting" and "Enigma" by Edward Elgar, which Elgar composed when he proposed to his future wife, Caroline Alice Roberts. The second piece is "Enigma," consisting of a "Theme" followed by 14 variations.
The third piece is the overture to "The Merry Widow" by Lehar, originally from the operetta of the same name, but made widely known through the brass band version. The fourth piece is "Der Rosenkavalier" by R. Strauss, excerpted and recomposed from the opera of the same name. Enjoy the Ichikawa Symphony Orchestra's performance of this piece, which features a violin and wind instrument solos and is very much worth listening to.
Conducted by Tomohiro Oura, who has a deep knowledge of opera as well, the performance will be a delight to listen to.
