The Daughter of Shinjuku Hanazono" is a new stage work inspired by Schubert's "The Daughter of the Water Mill". The story spun by actor Shunya Oguchi, dancer Yasushi Kurotaki, and countertenor Toshiharu Nakajima depicts the yearning for love and art on a rain-soaked night in Shinjuku Hanazono. Director and musician Sunahiko Fuse incorporates a soundscape of string ensembles, trumpets, and double basses into the play, linking it to the history of the Ojo Building, once a famous cafe. Actors, dancers, and vocalists come together in a 90-minute performance that takes the audience deep into the heart of Shinjuku, vividly revealing its beauty and pathos.
