Yokohama, France, and vocal music in the early 20th century, as seen through the pioneer of Japanese vocal music "Carmen Omi" Yoshiko Sato, are fascinatingly linked.
The third installment of "Yokohama Music Story," titled "Yokohama 'Songs' Story," will consist of two lectures and a concert, as in the second installment, with the concert in May focusing on the great vocalist Yoshiko Sato, who had a major influence on the acceptance and promotion of classical music in Yokohama in the 20th century. Sato was a pioneer who led the world of vocal music not only in Yokohama but also in Japan. The aria from Bizet's opera of the same name, in which Sato performed Carmen for the first time in Japan, and the French songs she learned in France and Japanese songs of the same period will be performed by the remarkable soprano Mari Moriya and pianist Takayuki Ezawa. The concert will also include a performance of the exposition and navigational skills of the singer! During the concert, Toshihiko Urakyu, an expositional navigator, will give a talk about the period with Miko Sato. This is a concert where you can get a sense of the music world of the early 20th century through both music and words! Please come to the concert.
