Collaboration project: Friends of Steenhammar, Wind from Sweden, Summer Concert (1)

The 15th concert of Quartetto Oceano, in collaboration with the Friends of Steenhammer, will focus on Norrman, the great Swedish composer, in an interesting program that traces the development of string quartet music from the late 18th to the 19th century.

Joseph Mattin Krauss's (1756-1792) "String Quartet in G major, Op. 1-6" is a work in the classical style with a unique character. Krauss is often referred to as the "Swedish Mozart," and this quartet is also characterized by its precise counterpoint and transparent musicality. It is also interesting to note that there is a movement entitled "Scottish Style. The next work, "String Quartet in G major, Op. 82-2," by Louis Spohr (1784-1859), is one of the most representative works of the early Romantic style. Spohr's style is characterized by his unique use of harmony and fluidity of melodic line, and in this work, too, the intertwining of the individual voices produces a rich expression. In this work, too, the intertwining of the various voices produces a rich expression. Especially in the scenes that call for a full internal writing style and detailed articulation, the changes in tone quality caused by Oceano's gut strings will accentuate the delicate beauty of the work.
The latter part of the program will be "String Quartet in D minor, Op. 24" by Ludwig Norrman (1831-1885). Norrman is a composer who occupies an important place in the history of Swedish music, and especially in his chamber music works, he established his own style of expression that combines Nordic lyricism and German Romantic influences. In this work, too, the passion and dramatic expression inherent in the precise structure are impressive, and the warm sound of the gut strings should accentuate the lyrical and shaded musical character of the work.
This performance will be a rare opportunity for the audience to get a bird's-eye view of the diverse development of string quartets from the 18th to 19th centuries from a historical perspective, and to experience their sound in a form close to the performance style of the time.
