Mutsumi Tsunisaki Concert "Revive Now! Xylophone Days vol.21".

Conference Dances

2025/05/23(Fr.) 14:00 Starting

Annex Hall, The Museum of KyotoKyoto

Official https://www.tsuuzakimutsumi.com

This series, which began in 2014 and traces the contents of Mutsumi Tsuchizaki's book "Xylophone Days: Yohichi Hiraoka's 'Ten-i muhou no ongaku life'" (Kodansha, 2013) through music, is now in its 21st installment. Continuing from the previous installment, guests will be Yoji Matsusono and Hideki Morimoto. We will be featuring a trio performance of "xylophone, flute, and piano," which was born out of this series.
Mr. Morimoto, who freely plays a variety of flutes, including instruments from the time when flutes were made of wood and silver flutes from 100 years ago, is a perfect match for the sound of the venue (a Western-style building completed in 1906) as well as the xylophone made in 1935. Composer/pianist Yoji Matsusono has been asked to arrange seven new works, ranging from Bach to Debussy to film music.
The subtitle of the concert, "The Congress Dances," is the title of an operetta film inspired by the 1814 Congress of Vienna, which was released in Germany in 1931 and in Japan in 1934. In addition to the theme music from this film, which Yoichi Hiraoka has often played, we will also perform "Dances of the Dagtans" (Borodin) and "Military March" (Schubert), both of which appear in the film.
Eleven years have passed since the first concert, and this series has become my life's work. Not only do I follow in the footsteps of the xylophone masters, but I also feel that I am walking through the "xylophone age/mockingdays" with everyone who comes to listen. Please come and enjoy the sound of xylophone at the venue. (Mutsumi Michizaki)

Doors open at 6:00 p.m. and the performance begins at 6:30 p.m. (evening session).
Both performances will last 90 minutes with no intermission.
