Whether played by an orchestra or a wind orchestra, a masterpiece is still a masterpiece. The Yokohama Musikverein Brass Band is an amateur orchestra with members of all ages who share the same desire to play masterpieces of the past and present, without being restricted by the framework of brass band music. We have been seriously researching not only arrangements and playing techniques, but also player assignments, to explore the possibilities of "a new sound for brass band". We have performed Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 5, which we performed at the first regular concert, as well as Beethoven's No. 4 and 6 "Pathetique," Beethoven's No. 5, Brahms' No. 1, 2, and 4, Rachmaninov's No. 2, Symphonic Dances, Berlioz's Fantasy Symphony, Respighi's Roman Triptych, and other symphonic works and poems. The orchestra has performed the complete works of symphonic poems and highlights from Tchaikovsky's ballets "The Nutcracker" and "Swan Lake" in the original arrangements of the group in their original tunes. We have also performed orchestral and organ music from the Baroque to the present day, songs, classical pop music, and many masterpieces composed for brass band. This year, the orchestra will perform a Beethoven symphony for the second time in 16 years and a piano concerto for the first time.
