The reason for putting together this program is that when I first heard the flute sonata by Mel Bonis, which is scheduled to be performed, I was impressed by how beautiful the music was. Mel Bonis is a female composer who has recently been featured in various places, and many of her works were discovered in the late 20th century. I was more interested in the fact that she had written such wonderful music but had been forgotten until recently. Another work by Grandval, also on the program, seems to have been almost completely forgotten until recently. I heard that she was a very well-known composer at the time.
In addition, for the purpose of this concert, we asked composer Futoshi Ebihara to write a piece for solo flute, "Mermaid's Lament - by the name of a female composer".
Although these may be the first time you have heard these composers' works, we would be happy to share with you a number of wonderful works from the Romantic era to the present day.
