Ogikubo Festival Orchestra 18th Regular Concert
2025/05/11(su.) 14:00 Starting
[Greetings.]
Our vision is to create a "local community centered on music", and we aim to create an orchestra with rich "Ogikubo colors" that everyone involved in the orchestra can enjoy.
This year's festival will open with the overture to Humperdinck's masterpiece, "Hansel and Gretel". The conductor at the time of the premiere of this opera was Richard Strauss, the composer of the horn concerto No. 1, which will be performed next. The concerto was written for his father, who was a famous horn player, and its lively melody echoes through the forest. Mr. Shusai Nobusue, one of the best horn players in Japan and principal of the Japan Philharmonic Orchestra, which has a friendly relationship with Suginami Ward, will enchant you with his beautiful solo.
The main program will be Brahms' Symphony No. 4. Brahms himself recognized it as his masterpiece as it is the culmination of his original compositional techniques while using classical elements. Richard Strauss also praised this work highly and is said to have played the triangle in the first performance.
We look forward to seeing you at the concert.
