Rie Tanaka will give a heart-rending piano recital at Oji Hall in Ginza, Tokyo.

■Comments from Pianist Rie Tanaka

On July 20 (Sun.) at Oji Hall in Ginza, I will give a piano recital focusing on Brahms' "Piano Sonata No. 3" and Chopin's "Piano Sonata No. 2.

This sonata by Brahms is the only one written after meeting Schumann. Brahms' love for his teacher, Dr. Schumann, and his love for his teacher's wife, Clara, who was attracted to and fell in love with him, are both genuine.

But there is also a sense of resentment and fear because of his love.

On the other hand, Chopin's Sonata No. 2 is famous for its funeral march. From the very beginning of the piece, one cannot help but feel resentment and fear of death. We will continue to practice so that we can get as close as possible to the essence of the music, in which their souls dwell.

I would be happy if I could play "Love and Death" by Brahms and Chopin for you ♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡ I am looking forward to seeing you.

Profile of Pianist Rie Tanaka

Graduated from Kunitachi College of Music, Department of Instrumental Music, majoring in piano. She has been involved in a wide range of activities since her university days, including student conducting and accompaniment of the Young Prague Choir at the Young Prague Music Festival, and celesta in the Brass Orchester. Performed at the 75th Yomiuri Newcomers Concert. Bronze Prize at the 17th Chopin International Piano Competition in Asia. First Prize in the A3-Professional Division of the 4th Nohant Festival Chopin in Japan Piano Competition, and "Chopin Knight Prize" at the Château de l'Ars, Nohant, France. She was discovered by the late Keisuke Shinohara, composer of the music for the movies "Arashi no yaroni" and "Piano Forest," and released a CD of Stravinsky's "Firebird" for piano solo on Octavia Records (TRITON). In 2020, he performed Chopin Piano Concertos No. 1 and No. 2 with the Pacific Philharmonia Tokyo at Suntory Hall's Great Hall. In addition to being a concert pianist, he is the president of INOPIA Co. President of INOPIA, a piano salon for adults. Presides over Mitaka-Musashino Marmor Call and Hachioji Marmor Call. He also holds charity concerts on a regular basis. Pianist of Gakuyu Mita-kai Chorus. Pianist of the male voice choir "Rohan".
