Mass in Tournai

The Mass of Tournai, a 14th-century mass woven in the cathedral of Notre Dame de Tournai in northern France (present-day Belgium). This work is an epoch-making fusion of two different styles of medieval European music, the old style "Ars Antiqua" and the new style "Ars Nova," and is a historical masterpiece that served as a model for later masses.
In this performance, the Musica Parafonista will take advantage of the magnificent acoustics of the Chiba City Museum of Art's Sayado Hall to perform Tournay's Mass together with the Gregorian chant for the Virgin, which was sung in the same cathedral at the time.
