Ensemble Recreazione d'Arcadia
Rome in the 1690s: A Tour of Works by Mannelli, Migari, and Corelli
2025/02/22(sa.) 17:30 Starting
Imai-kan Bible Auditorium (Tokyo)

The Ensemble Recreazione d'Arcadia, which will celebrate its 20th anniversary in 2024, will perform works by Pietro Marchitelli, a "Neapolitan violin virtuoso" who was newly discovered in February 2024 in the "Santini Collection" of the Diocesan Library of Munster, Germany. The audience was able to experience a new and fascinating side of Pietro Marchitelli, a previously unknown violin virtuoso. The first half of the album, which contains eight trio sonatas and two quartets by Pietro Marchitelli (1635-1715), and the second half of the album, which contains the works of Pietro Migalli (Rome, 1635-1715), were recorded in the library of the National Library of Music in Rome. The second half is a manuscript score in the form of a total of 22 pieces, including Pietro Migari's (1635-1715) Op. 1 (Rome, 1693). After having been exposed to the first half, our interest naturally turned to the composer of the second half, Pietro Migari, a composer from Lecce, Puglia. This led us to the trio sonatas of the second half of the 17th century, especially in Rome in the 1690s. The major works of the time include Carlo Mannelli's Op. 3 (1692), a shadowy violin virtuoso who was an important composer and violinist in Rome, but who is now largely neglected in the midst of Corelli's fame. The Ensemble Recreazione d'Arcadia will perform works by these three composers to give us a glimpse of the musical landscape of Rome in the 1690s.
Performance without intermission (75 minutes)
