[February 24, 2011 performance.

Isn't it a bit strange to "casually enjoy" church music? Some may think that listening to church music as entertainment.... However, in the first half of the 18th century, when there were no TVs, smartphones, or concerts, church music was unmistakable entertainment for people. For the general public, worship was one of the few opportunities to experience proper music.

So wrote Telemann. Telemann wrote church music with recorders and viola da gamba, like concertos. And church music that can be played at home as well as in church. We want everyone to have access to new music every week.

In the fourth session, we will focus on various church music by Telemann. In the second half of the program, we will recreate a part of the ceremony of the time. Please enjoy the music of the 18th century Hamburg worship service.
