Polaris Philharmoniker 4th Subscription Concert
Date: 2025/4/5 (Sat) 13:30
Place: Yokohama Minato Mirai Hall Main Hall
Conductor: Yukio Yamagami
Program: Sibelius / Symphonic Poem
Sibelius / Symphonic Poem "Tapiola
Mahler / Symphony No.6 "Tragic

The 4th subscription concert will feature Sibelius / Symphonic Poem "Tapiola" and Mahler / Symphony No. 6 under the baton of up-and-coming young conductor Kosei Yamagami.

The first program features "Tapiola," a symphonic poem by Sibelius, which is the pinnacle of the genre that Sibelius pursued throughout his life, and which he reached in his later years. The work depicts the forests and landscapes of Finland, Sibelius' own mental landscape, with a simple theme that is devoid of any pretense.

The main work is Mahler's Symphony No. 6. As Alma Mahler said, "No other piece has ever come so directly from his heart," and this symphony is the pinnacle of the composer's inner world. It is an extremely dramatic work that intricately intertwines many themes, such as the life and death of a hero, happiness and despair, nature, pastoral songs, battlefields, and hardships, and while formally advocating a return to the classics, Mahler's creative spirit is on full display as he tests the possibilities of a large orchestra to the limit.

Two and a half years after the founding of the group, the Sibelius & Mahler program is now fully underway, and we look forward to your participation.
